Jesus Called Us

Listen to this article

We talk a lot about Jesus saving us—and that’s true and beautiful. But here’s the part we often miss: He didn’t just save you from something. He saved you for something.

There’s a reason He reached into your life. You were called.

That was the heart of my message to the youth this week. Here’s the recap—and I pray it challenges you too.

The Starting Line, Not the Finish Line

Too many people treat salvation like a finish line.
“Whew. I made it. I’m not going to hell. Time to live safe and just be a good Christian.”

But salvation is the starting line.

It’s like the gun going off in a race. When Jesus saves you, He places His Spirit in you—and that Spirit isn’t passive. It’s active, it’s missional, and it’s purpose-driven.

We don’t just stop at being forgiven. We move forward into being sent.

Every believer has a call on their life. Not just pastors. Not just missionaries. If you’ve been saved by Jesus, you’ve been called by Jesus.

My Story: From Surviving to Sent

I didn’t grow up feeling “called.”
I felt broken.
I felt ashamed.
I was stuck in addiction and heading for destruction.

But God didn’t just show up to clean me up. He showed up to call me out.

Someone once said to my dad: “Your son will preach the gospel to the multitudes.” That word sat on a shelf for years. But when I finally surrendered—fully—I realized: God’s calling never stopped knocking.

He called me to preach, to make disciples, to live a life that builds His Kingdom.

Isaiah’s Encounter: Called in the Presence

In Isaiah 6, the prophet Isaiah has a supernatural encounter with God’s holiness. It was overwhelming.

He cried out, realizing his sin and unworthiness.

In Isaiah 6, we see the rhythm of true calling:

Isaiah encounters God

He’s wrecked by God’s holiness

He’s healed and made whole

Then—he’s sent

That’s what happens in God’s presence. He reveals, He heals, and He sends.

Isaiah didn’t get called because he had a perfect resume. He got called because he made himself available.

Before calling you to something, God calls you to Himself. Intimacy fuel's purpose.

Three Tools to Live Out Your Calling

Here are the three tools I gave the youth. Let this be your starter kit for stepping into what God’s prepared for you:

1. Serve – What can you do right now?

Start with what’s in your hand. Can you greet at church? Pray for a friend? Lead worship? Stack chairs?

Serving positions you for clarity.
When you move in small things, God unlocks big things.

2. Obey – Keep saying yes.

Obedience is the bridge between salvation and activation.
It’s not about waiting for the “big call”—it’s about faithfully showing up.

Don’t underestimate what God can do through consistent obedience.

3. Respond to His Presence

The presence of God is the fuel for your calling.
Get in the Word. Get around other believers. Get in environments where God is moving.

When you stay close to the Caller, you stay confident in the calling.

“Write down what stirs your heart—God often speaks through your passion.”

Life on Mission: A Real Example

During my message, I invited one of our Pais team members to share.
She shared how she stepped out in faith to join missions—even when she felt unsure and unprepared.

Her story reminded us: God doesn’t call the qualified. He qualifies the called.

Her “yes” led her to disciple youth, serve in schools, and grow in boldness.
And that kind of life is available to all of us.

Your Moment of Activation

“Jesus, I don’t just want to be saved—I want to be sent.”

Ask yourself:

Am I saved and sent?

What’s holding me back from obeying the call?

This is your moment to respond with faith.

A Prayer for the Called

Jesus, thank You for saving me.
Thank You for calling me.
I want to live with purpose.
Teach me to serve with joy, obey with faith, and walk in Your presence daily.
I say yes to Your call—use me for Your glory.
Amen.
